Isopyöräinen Vaasassa

hiwheeler

Kyllä kesti ennekuin tämäkin tuli tietooni. Vanhan Vaasan museon kahvilassa on isopyöräinen 50” polkupyörä.

” The high wheel bicycle at your local museum was made by the Singer Mfg of Coventry England late 1885 or early 1886 (dating it by the serial #) .The easily detachable handlebars will be a quick fix to turn them in the right direction. The model was a Singer “Challenge”. Singer claimed to be the largest manufacturer in England (for that part the world) of bicycles. This claim could have been valid till the early 1890’s when other makers took over the lead position. Singer bicycles were exported all over the world. Your museum has a nice example of thier product.
Cheers Carey”

” Yes that’s right. It appears to be a 50” by the number stamped below the serial #. The dust shield should say etched in it Singer and Co. “Challenge” Coventry, England. Yes it is a very fine example, one that should not be “restored” and left as an artifact! Too bad Iv’e seen well meaning folks with machines in this original condition restore them because so and so’s got a new shiny bike. The shine won’t last long and you’ll then have someday what we have heard some say “Yeah it’s a tried older restoration”, rather than “Look at the beautiful Original”
While you’re reversing the bars move the seat forward to it’s correct position. Be careful of the original leather. Jerry”

Thank You both Jerry and Carey from this valuable information.
